August 17, 2007, Newsletter Issue #27: Job Market For Special Education Teachers

Tip of the Week

Employment of special education teachers is expected to increase faster than the average for all occupations through 2014 reports the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Although the amount of children who will be entering special education programs is expected to decline, the amount of services will increase, offering a child the chance to "mainstream" and take classes with their peers instead of having only choices of taking special education classes with other special education students. Those teachers with special education training may be a private tutor, assist the child throughout the day with a one-on-one situation, hired privately by family members.

For additional information, the National Association of Special Education Teachers (www.naset.org) has a “Latest Job Listings” link as well as information on how to interview, write a resume, and career advice.
